Tolerance

Dear Aarush and Aayra,

Think about your lifestyle the way you live, your beliefs, your way of talking, thinking, and the environment. Now take a look around you and think about someone else's, you might found some aspects of other's life which annoys you, which are according to you are irritable. This often makes difficult for us to connect to other people. This could be the case with any of your family members or your roommate or your fellow student or your neighbor. Here, Tolerance plays an important role. Tolerance as per many psychologists is respecting other people's beliefs or ways of living. Tolerance is actually a term used to describe other people's attitudes and behaviors which maybe be disapproved or treated by us as abnormal, nevertheless, we try to respect them even if you don't tolerate the other person's behavior. Tolerance is a virtue that helps us to put up with those who have different ways and opinions and outlook on life. Tolerance is one of the conditions of good manners hence it is important in everyone's life. If someone is tolerant it helps you stay at peace and gives happiness in social settings.

Being Intolerant

If I am saying all this it doesn't mean that I am myself a very tolerant person. I wish I could be more tolerant of other people. Being intolerant doesn't mean one needs to show anger or have a temperament. It could discomfort you on other levels also. Being an intolerant person some people attain a know-it-all attitude in life even when they don't know about a certain thing they always deny to accept it. This is unhealthy and lead you to bigger problems in life.
An intolerant person always has words but their depth is nowhere to be found. They could have an extreme line of thoughts which often shows their rigidity. This could result in a lot of relationship issues too.

Younger or older who are more tolerant

This is quite unsure how to generalize who are more tolerant but as some theories state, young kids are less tolerant. This may be because of the lack of their experiences in comparison to an older person. But even if younger ones are less tolerant it is always seen that they bounce back their behavior earlier than any adult can do.

Why people tolerate unacceptable behavior

Sometimes it is unclear to a person what is acceptable and what is not. Even if they are clear about it some of them don't feel they have the internal power to stand for themselves. Because of this, they tolerate unacceptable behavior. This can be easily be seen nowadays in schools as bullying. If one could look at the deep ends we can also see that that accepting such behaviors could be because they themselves had been punished in life so they are too scared to say anything. Sometimes people are too busy to even care so they accept whatever comes in their way.

When we should not tolerate

Tolerance is not meant to encourage a weak-kneed attitude to life. It has a limit and beyond that, it may become a social crime. It is very important to understand when we should not tolerate other people's behavior. When accepting the behavior means going against your basic values as dishonesty, social wrongs it should not be accepted. We should not be complaisant towards personal attacks. Tolerance is a virtue only when it comes to the principles of morality and good cause towards life. There are various facets of tolerance which should not be acceptable spiritual, religious, racial and gender unacceptable behaviors should not be tolerated.

Good Luck!!
